Comfort Cuisine
During the colder months, the idea of comfort always comes to mind. Whether it’s a warm beverage, a snug blanket, a relaxing space or a cozy sweater, we often find ourselves especially in tuned with the subtle joy we feel when we think about such things. Cuisine from Chef Kwame Onwuachi, of Kith and Kin restaurant in DC, falls right into this category and September Set is excited about it.
Anytime we can sit down and enjoy a wonderful meal with great conversation, we would say it’s a plus. When we find ourselves enjoying a meal and great conversation, as well as be reminded of our mothers’ and grandmothers’ wonders in the kitchen, well, now we are talking about something special. The idea of us thinking about our own family kitchens while sitting in Chef Kwame Onwuachi’s dining room is exceptional. But, it makes sense when we hear Kwame talk about who influenced him in the kitchen, his mother.
It’s all about home for Kwame, which is the feeling that he creates in his cozy restaurant Kith and Kin. And, let’s not forget the generosity we find in his memoir, Notes From A Young Black Chef, which is not meant to collect dust on a library self as it illustrates his life rich with culture and inspiring experiences. It demands that it is put to use in your very own kitchen with comforting family recipes like Gumbo or Egusi Stew. Ultimately, Chef Kwame is not just telling a story but inviting you to become a participant and feel the meaning of home which for September Set is synonymous with comfort. From tasty cocktails with names like One Love and delicious small bites that tempt you to order in multiple quantity to carry away, to filling entrees that invite you to be thankful that you didn’t wear a belt, as well as delightful desserts, Chef Kwame Onwuachi gifted us with the comfort of home which left us full of joy.
