Porcelain Doll
On September 5, 2020, our community experienced the death of someone special. Full of light, love and life, Iman Jackson has been an enthusiastic loyal supporter of September Set since day one. During the launch, two Septembers ago, she generously shared her work for September Set’s platform under the pen name, Lux Heier, which she joyously stated that it “literally means light guard”. Such a fitting name for someone whose energy was heart-warming and contagious. With Iman in your corner, you couldn’t help but feel like nothing’s in the way. In her memory, September Set shares exclusive work written by the artist herself, Porcelain Doll. May her voice be heard, her light be seen and her spirit be felt. Rest in peace, Iman Jackson.
Porcelain Doll
A thing happened to me that rarely does,
I met an extraordinary man and fell in love
Talent, intellect and a smile so sincere
Unapologetically honest, not just what you want to hear
He displayed his affection effortlessly
Old wounds remain unhealed; I must concede
Instead of admitting my vulnerable state,
I deviated from our pact
I fear it's too late
To regain the trust I didn’t work to earn
Hearts break in two; a painful lesson learned
Some souls are just inherently good
I'm so sorry I didn’t treat you as I should
Not letting people in is my greatest downfall
And now it seems you aren’t interested at all
Porcelain doll, cracks upon her face
Don’t get to close or the illusion will fade
Hearts and hopes shatter like glass
A poor little rich girl can't run from her past
Damaged goods perfectly wrapped in a bow
Concealing sorrow, I didn’t want you to know
The porcelain doll with cracks upon her face
Cares for you immensely;
with bated breath she waits
